Auf den Spuren unserer Ahnen – Bistritz

Nachdem wir das Frühstück in unserem tollen Hotel, dem „Metropolis“ aufgrund der Zeitumstellung verpasst haben, sind wir los in die Stadt. Hier gibt es ein nettes Zentrum mit kleinen Cafes, einen schönen Park und einer Kirche die in 2008 durch einen Brand schwer beschädigt wurde, was unsere Mutter&Oma damals sehr traurig gemacht hatte. Inzwischen ist sie (von außen) wieder sehr schön restauriert. In der ganzen Stadt sieht und spürt man wie sie schöner und lebenswerter gemacht wird – unser Hotel ist das beste Beispiel dafür – echt schick. 

After we did miss breakfast in our superb hotel „Metropolis“, as we didn’t recognize entering a new time zone last night, we went into the city with it’s nice cafe’s, shops and the park. Then we had a look after the church, which was heavily damaged by a fire in 2008, which made our (grand)mother very sad at the time. Meanwhile it is very well renovated (from outside) and overall in the city we could see and feel the engagement to make Bistritz more beautiful and attractive. Our hotel being the best example  – chic.

  

Wir haben uns dann auch auf die Spuren unserer Vorfahren, der Vedfy’s, Wenk’s und Schuller’s gemacht. Ist ganz schön schwer, da alles Deutsche hier weitgehend verschwunden ist und das Standesamt, welches wir nach einiger Recherche ausfindig gemacht haben, schon geschlossen war.

In the afternoon we then tried to find some traces of our ancestors, the Vedfy’s and Wenk’s and Schiller’s, which turned out to be difficult as almost all German did disappear during the communist time under Chaucescu. After some investigation, we found the civil registry office, but it was closed already.

Von diesem Amt wurden wir heute dann wiederum weiter geschickt in das Arhivele Nationale. Hier fanden wir von einer Archivarin tolle Unterstützung. Wir haben alte Personenstandsregister und Taufbücher durchforstet, allerdings war die Suche sehr kompliziert, da die Unterlagen früher nach Konfession geführt wurden und die Evangelischen vor 1895 von der Kirche selbst aufbewahrt wurden. Den genauen Wohnort oder die Arbeitsstelle unserer Vorfahren konnten wir zwar nicht genau herausfinden, aber haben nun trotzdem eine gute Vorstellung wie und wo sie damals gelebt haben.

At the civil registry office, they haven’t really been supportive, but they did send us to the „Arhivele Nationale“. Here we met a very nice and supportive archiver. She did bring all the registers of birth, marriages and confession of the time we were looking for (dad’s grandma was born in 1890). The search was difficult as before 1895 all these registrations and archives have been maintained by the reformatory church. Finally we could not exactly identify addresses or professions of our ancestors, but we got a good feeling of the life in „Siebenbürgen“ at the time and went to the houses or the area where we found indications, that they had lived there.
